APC MP’s Life Threatened

By S.U. Thoronka

APC Member of Parliament representing Constituency 25 in the Kono District last week informed the Global Times that he received a phone call from an unknown caller on mobile no. 076-103-547 at about 5PM  local time threatening his life. He said he has already reported the matter to the crime prevention office at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters and that the matter is being investigated by one Mr. Jusu.

Explaining his ordeal to the Global Times as to why he could be targeted, Honourable Augustine B. Torto said as a Politician he was not aware of stepping on anybody’s toe that could have warranted a threat on his life. He said he entered Parliament on the SLPP ticket and represented Constituency 25 from 2002-2007.

Honourable Torto furthered that he saw the writing on the wall that if he had applied for the SLPP symbol for the second time in 2007, he would definitely not have gotten it. So he explained his problems to his father, the late Paramount Chief who he directed him to Ernest Bai Koroma for the APC symbol.

Honourable Torto said his father assured him that as long as he was the Paramount Chief he would do all that was necessary for him to win the election if the APC symbol was awarded to him. He said based upon the advice for the symbol and assurance for the election he went for the symbol to Ernest Bai Koroma and won the seat in 2007.

Honourable Augustine B. Torto said in 2007, he escaped four assassination attempts on his life in Kono and that after winning the election another assassination attempt was made on his life this time at his residence at Hill Station in Freetown.

He said when he went for the APC symbol in 2012 for the second time, the political cabal both in Kono and Freetown teamed up against him and that had it not been for the timely intervention of the President with the 4 for 4 strategy, he would have been edged out of the race.

Honourable Torto said he would like the public to know that his enemies were trying to eliminate him.
